I have been teaching violin for over 30 years. I enjoy teaching students of all ages and currently have students ranging from age 7 to over 60. I use a blend of several methods for beginning students depending on their age and musical experience. Emphasis is given to proper set-up of student and instrument, followed by producing a beautiful tone on the instrument using simple folk melodies. When the student is ready they will move into note reading while continuing to perfect their posture and tone. Performance opportunities are provided in both solo and ensemble settings. Students can also be entered in the WSMTA Adjudication program. As a member of the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra, I am challenged as a performer and enjoy the comaraderie of rehearsing and performing with other musicians from Whatcom County. I also organize monthly meetings for string teachers to gather and share ideas.
